Ingredients

  • 2 Cup milk
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • 1. Cook the macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • 2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • 3. Slowly whisk in the milk, and continue whisking until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken.
  • 4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, and continue stirring until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.
  • 5. Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  • 6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the macaroni is coated in the sauce.
  • 7. If desired, sprinkle bread crumbs over the top of the mac and cheese and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Alternatively, serve as is and sprinkle chopped parsley over the top.
